A pteridophyte is a vascular plant with hidden means of reproduction. Their leaves are known as fronds and they produce neither flowers nor seeds.
Many elements in this necklace were pulled from my past collections of work. I brought back the soil bed settings—with a fern frond laying in a bed of soil. When I first previewed this piece everyone thought it was two separate necklaces, but.. it’s actually one piece; hinged together from the back. The hinge on the back allows the pendants to move freely of one-another rather than having one-large stiff pendant; this also helps them lay better on the chest. I wanted to make a massive showcase necklace bringing back my fern theme alongside this extra large hunk of lichen that I’ve had sitting around for years. I set the pendant on a fixed 18″ heavy duty chain and finished it off with a floating plus and my makers mark badge. The pendant measures 3 1/8″ long by 2 3/8″ wide. It’s a heavy one, so I suggest wearing it higher up on the chest. The entire piece is made in Sterling Silver.
