‘The Red Cross’
‘The Red Cross’
The design of The Red Cross ring came to me after I had been antique shopping and spotted a little red plus sign from across the room. These pins—weathered and dated 1913-1917—were given out to individuals who donated blood during WWI.
At the beginning of WWI, The Red Cross was a small organization still in the process of developing its identity and programs. By the time the war was over in 1918, the Red Cross had become a major national humanitarian organization with a major focus on war effort. These pins each represent a life. They represent an act of humanity towards U.S. & Allied military personnel and civilian war victims.
Each pin will vary in appearance as they came from different manufacturing companies. The colors vary from white to yellow-white. Some crosses may be slightly off center. Each pin has slight wear in the enamel coating; they reflect their age.
Each pin is set in a seamless industrial setting; cut, soldered and filed to perfection. Heavy duty prongs precisely measured and formed to hold each pin in place. Custom built round split shank for comfort. Finished with a semi matte finish paired with a 10++ shine.
